England Athletics Endurance Kit The England Athletics Endurance Kit can be used alongside the Endurance Handbook. The kit allows teachers and coaches to run activities, games and team based competition formats that can be easily applied in schools and clubs as part of a coordinated development programme for young people. The kit also facilitates the British Athletics Endurance Awards. See page 13 for more details.

England Athletics Med Ball Challenge

The England Athletics Med Ball Challenge is an initiative to promote the development of Throwing activity in schools and clubs.

Suitable for children aged 9 to 15, there are five kinds of throw: Forward Pitch, Chest Push, Soccer Throw, Overhead Heave, and Shoulder Fling. Each technique is used in various ball games or athletics throwing events. The concept is ideal for PE lessons or club training sessions, is easy to set up and can be done indoors and outdoors. It is inclusive, suitable for all abilities and excellent for talent ID. England Athletics 365 Kit Athletics 365 is a multi-event development programme which introduces athletes to the fundamental skills of athletics (vital to every sport). It is aimed predominantly at 8-15 year olds but the resources can easily be adapted for use with younger athletes. Athletics 365 focuses not only on how fast someone runs or how far someone jumps or throws but also, more importantly, on developing the technical skills required to perform at full potential and move like a champion. In addition to technical skills, Athletics 365 also looks at an athlete’s physical, mental and emotional development, as well as their lifestyle and social development. See page 30 for more details.

The Sportshall programmes were developed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to athletic skills and sporting activity, whilst catering progressively for the needs of the developing child. The wide range of activities and events within Sportshall incorporate and encourage the development of the core fundamental physical skills at the heart of the Primary and Secondary curriculum.

Sportshall Skills (for ages 4 - 16) The Sportshall Decathlon provides an ideal introduction to the most popular Sportshall activities. Sportshall Skills are the first step to gaining British Athletics Awards or to participating in Sportshall competition. NOTES ABOUT AWARDS: Using the Score Card and the Points Tables, the participant’s total can be added up and an award level attained. The Awards have been designed so that the top 50% of pupils in an average school should be capable of achieving at least a Bronze Award by the time they leave Year 6. This has been done specifically as a way to encourage the bottom 50% to try that bit harder to improve their own fitness levels and achieve Bronze. We would like to challenge all primary schools to win as many Bronze Awards as possible and thereby increase the average fitness levels in their school. Please note that the Pentathlon scores are more than half the Decathlon scores in recognition of the extra effort needed to be good in all ten events. Gold corresponds to the top 5% in Year 6 when tested halfway through the school year.

Steps 1–7 cater for those children in the bottom
