WEB COPY ©EVEQUE WEB COPY ©EVEQUE 5.3.4.1 Introducing the Three Phases For the Standing Triple Jump, both the of athlete's feet must be behind the start line but they need not be together. The young athlete may crouch or rock before the jump but the leading front foot must not break contact with the ground before the start of the jump. This rule does not apply to the back foot which may be swung freely provided it does not touch the ground in front of the start line. The measurement is taken from the take-off line to the nearest point of impression in the sand pit measured at 90º to the take-off line. The description ‘Triple Jump’ can be rather bewildering to a young athlete so it can be simplified to the description of ‘Hop, Step and Jump’, which can be practised in the combination jumps described in section 5.3.3.4. 5.3.4 Standing Triple Jump
